Maize & Blue Candidacy Requirements
-
Students who have a 3.75 overall GPA in their last 58 credit hours at the beginning of their last semester are eligible to be nominated for the Maize & Blue award.
-
The Maize & Blue is the highest undergraduate award you can receive and is only presented to no more than 13 graduates at each of the commencement ceremonies in May and December.
-
The commencement student speaker is chosen from among the Maize & Blue award winners.
-
The award is noted on the student's official transcript and diploma.
-
August graduates are eligible for the award only the December after they finish degree requirements.
-
Students are nominated by their department, but they must submit a personal statement and an updated resume to the Provost's Office or to the main professor who is nominating them.
-
Students who qualify are generally contacted by the department, or by the Provost's Office or both.
-
It is wise for students to find professors, both in their own and other departments, who are willing to write letters for them.
-
For Honors students, the Director always writes an extensive letter of recommendation.
