The Honors Program began in 1979 with Dr. Frank Richardson as the Founding Director. The program was part of the College of Arts and Sciences, and Dr. Richardson reported to the dean. In 1990, Dr. Douglas Miller became the director of the program, base funding was initiated, and the director reported to the Provost. Dr. Miller served as director until 1997 when Dr. Larry Kugler stepped into the role and served until 1999. Since 1999, Dr. Maureen Thum has served as Honors Director.

Over the past 10 years, the Honors Program has more than doubled in size.

The need for more space has been imperative. Luckily, Dr. Robert Houbeck, Director of the Willson Thompson Library, is able to provide the perfect space for the program. The new Honors Suite construction began on October 4, 2013. The suite is located in the front half of the Technical Services area on the first floor of the library.

Honors completed the move successfully and we are now at home in the new location at 138 Thompson Library.
