Eligibility and Expecations:

Minimum Qualifications:

The RA position is a 20 hour per week position

 

  1. By the end of Winter term 2008, you must be have completed at least 3 semesters of course work on a college or university campus (not including spring/summer) and have completed 36 credit hours of course work on a college or university campus.
  2. You must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.3 or higher at the time of application and prior to the start of employment.  A cumulative grade point average of 2.3 must be maintained during the period of employment.  Grades will be checked each semester prior to employment and during employment.
  3. You must be available for employment for two semesters upon initial hire.

NOTE: International students may not be employed outside of the position due to restrictions in their student visa.

Important Dates:

Commitments and Training dates: these are times you must have available in your schedule for both Winter 2008 and the 2008-2009 academic year.

Winter 2008 Training – January 11th – April 11th, 2008

All RAs will be required to attend weekly training from 3-5pm throughout winter semester.  Training begins on Friday, January 11th and ends on Friday, April 11th.  We will not meet during spring break.

Fall 2008 training dates

All RAs will be required to move into the residence hall on Sunday, August 17, 2008 to begin training.  Training will end on Sunday, August 24, 2008. 

Winter 2009 training dates

RAs return by noon on Saturday, January 3, 2009 – training will be held the afternoon of the 3rd and all day the 4th

Move-in and Welcome

All RAs will be required to participate in residence hall move-in and welcome activities prior to the first day of classes. 

RA Staff meetings

Staff meetings will be on Monday nights from 6pm – 8pm each night during the 2008-09 academic year.

Hall Closing Dates for Resident Advisors

All RAs are needed to close the building at the end of Fall term 2008 and Winter term 2009.  The building closes during winter break and all residents and staff must leave.  The following are the dates and times RAs must remain in the building in order to close the building in Fall and Winter.

RAs stay until 5pm on Thursday, December 18, 2008 or until the building is closed and secure.

RAs stay until 8pm on Thursday, April 30, 2009 or until the building is closed, secure and clean.

 

Thanksgiving and Spring Break

 

The residence hall remains open during Thanksgiving and Spring Break.  RAs may be required to remain on campus to fulfill duty responsibilities.

 

Additional Expectations/Information:

  • Extra-curricular and/or work commitments beyond the RA position and regular class commitments may not exceed 15 hours per week.  Any outside commitments must be approved by the Hall Director.
  • RAs may be away from campus for 8 nights per semester with approval from the Hall Director.
  • RAs will have the opportunity to apply for a front desk position in order to earn additional income throughout the year.
  • RAs will have on-duty responsibilities throughout the term of employment.
  • There may be additional responsibilities due to Living Learning communities in the residence hall.  More information will be posted on this as it becomes available.
  • Maintain a standard of personal conduct commensurate with his/her responsibilities.
  • Maintain establishment of primary residence in the assigned room and suite.
  • Perform the duties and meet the expectations described for their Residence Staff position.
