Front Desk (FD) Staff Job Description

Introduction
The Front Desk (FD) staff position is essential to the success of the students living in the residence hall.  The Office of Housing and Residential Life is committed to building strong, inclusive communities within the residence hall and the FD staff assists in making that happen.  As a Housing and Residential Life staff member the FD staff members will provide a vital link between other Housing and Residential Life staff, students, Facilities Management and the general public. Housing and Residential Life staff will be committed to an educational approach in order to provide for the most meaningful experience for our residents.

The Housing and Residential Life Staff are dedicated to:

FD staff members are directly supervised by the Hall Director (HD) and indirectly supervised by the Director of Housing and Residential Life.
 
Time Commitment
FD’s will work a minimum of 6 hours per week. Individual FD’s hours may be more or less depending on their availability. The front desk is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week when the Residence Hall is open and as a result FD staff members must to be available to work during nights and weekends as needed.
 
Responsibilities

  • Attend mandatory staff meetings and training
  • Work rotating midnight, early morning and weekend shifts
  • Report directly to the Hall Director
  • Follow the “Resident’s Guide to Community Living at UM-Flint” and the University of Michigan Flint Students Responsibilities and Violations outlined in the “Statement of Student Rights and Responsibilities”
  • Perform all routine front desk functions i.e.:
    • guest check-in
    • campus information
    • handle phones and take messages
    • key/keycard distribution and room check-ins
    • maintain log sheets
    • sort and distribute mail / package distribution
    • operate copy machine
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by your supervisors
  • Be attentive to and report all health and safety concerns in the residence hall.
  • Provide continuous interaction and example which encourages students to act with reason, to assume responsibility for their actions, and to be consistently considerate of the rights and freedoms of others.
  • Develop and promote a positive working relationship with all residence hall staff including, other FD’s, custodial staff, dining staff, etc.

Compensation:
The hourly rate is $7.75 per hour. FD’s will be paid bi-weekly
