International Academic Service Learning in Cambodia will incorporate 10 students from a variety of disciplines to travel to Phenon Penh and Seim Reap, Cambodia. Students will work in orphanages, schools, and villages and will have a direct relationship with people from various cultural backgrounds in Cambodia. Students will visit health care institutions, social agencies, local governmental agencies, educational facilities, and cultural places to enrich their view of the different health, social and economic strata in Cambodian society. Students will have a direct relationship with people of Cambodia in providing health care and teaching to promote physical and mental well-being.
Cambodia Profile
Cambodia is a country in South East Asia with a population of over 14 million people. The kingdom's capital and largest city is Phnom Penh . Cambodia is the successor state of the once powerful Hindu and Buddhist Khmer Empire , which ruled most of the Indochinese Peninsula between the 11th and 14th centuries. The country borders Thailand to its west and northwest, Laos to its northeast and Vietnam to its east and southeast. In the south it faces the Gulf of Thailand . Agriculture has long been the most important sector of the Cambodian economy, with around 59% of the population relying on agriculture for their livelihood (with rice the principal crop). Garments , tourism , and construction are also important. In 2007, foreign visitors to Angkor Wat numbered more than 4 million.

Faculty
Professor Maureen Tippen is from the Department of Nursing. She has had previous experience in travel abroad courses with students to the Dominican Republic for the past 13 years, Peru in 2003, Cambodia in 2008, and Kenya in 2009.
Eligibility Junior level standing with minimum 3.0 GPA or consent of instructor. Course had limited enrollment of 10 students.
