About the English Language Program
The English Language Program (ELP) is an Intensive English Program designed to develop students’ skills in reading, vocabulary, writing, grammar, listening and speaking for academic purposes. Full time ELP students receive 20 hours per week of English and American culture instruction.
The English courses are taught by dedicated, TESOL trained instructors who have experience teaching and living abroad. In addition to academics, the program offers cultural activities and field trips on and off campus. Students that do not meet the University of Michigan-Flint language proficiency requirement take a language placement exam upon arrival and are placed into the appropriate level English courses. Conditional admission to the University of Michigan-Flint is possible for qualified candidates.
Mission Statement
In order to meet the personal goals of students seeking admission to the University of Michigan-Flint degree programs as well as to those who wish to improve their overall English proficiency, the ELP is dedicated to providing them with highly effective English language instruction, academic preparation, and cultural immersion.
