Definition of an International Student
In general, an international student is a student who
- wants to come to the United States to attend a university and will need a student (F-1) visa. Students requiring an F-1 visa are aliens seeking to be admitted to the US temporarily for the sole purpose of pursuing a full course of study at an educational institution approved by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
OR
- is currently living in the United States on a visa (any type except B-1 or B-2)

Minimum requirements for admission
For Undergraduate Students (seeking a Bachelors Degree):
note: Grade Point Average (GPA) requirements are based on the US common 4.0 scale.
- Freshman students must have acceptable grades/marks. If your school does not use a 4.0 grade point scale, please contact Undergraduate Admissions to ask if you are an admissible student.
- Transfer students must have the equivalent to a U.S. 2.0 ( C ) grade point average. Only courses with a passing grade will transfer.
- All international undergraduate applicants must prove English proficiency (often with a TOEFL score). Please visit the Admissions Checklist for more information and minimum requirements.
For Graduate Students (with a Bachelors Degree seeking a Masters or Doctoral Degree):
- An international graduate applicant must meet the minimum admission requirements specific to the program for which he/she is applying. Please visit the Graduate Programs how to apply page for the specific program requirements.
- All international graduate applicants must prove English proficiency (often with a TOEFL score). Please visit the Admissions Checklist for more information and minimum requirements.
