Cost of Living

Housing - Students pay between $300 -$400 (USD) a month for an apartment in downtown Flint. Apartments farther from campus can be more expensive. Most landlords include utilities into the rent, but you may have to pay for some of these services. Utilities include: electricity, water, phone line, gas, etc.

Food - Food for a month can cost anywhere from $100 - $200 (USD) depending on each student’s desires and dietary needs. The price for a meal at a fast food restaurant is about $5 (USD) and at a nice restaurant can be about $10 - $20 (USD).

Health Insurance - Students must have health insurance while studying at the University of Michigan – Flint. A student may use the health insurance from his or her country. If you do not have insurance from your home country, you may buy insurance from the University of Michigan – Flint insurance provider.

Entertainment - There are many different types of entertainment offered in the Flint area. The price to go see a movie at the theatre can be about $8 (USD) and to rent a movie is about $3 (USD).
 

Affidavit of Support

All international students seeking an F-1 visa must submit an Affidavit of Financial Support in order to be granted an I-20, and to prove their ability to provide money to cover living and educational expenses.
