UM-Flint Students in the Dominican Republic
During spring break in March 2014, a group of students led by Professor Maureen Tippen traveled to the Dominican Republic on an academic service-learning trip. Through this “hands on” service learning course, students were able to apply critical thinking skills, experience a culture different then their own, enhance cultural competence, language, and provide health care to a medically underserved community.

Emily Krueger & Brittney Walker in Costa Rica
Emily and Brittney participated in a volunteer abroad program in Costa Rica through uVolunteer. Their project was titled "Community Education" and they worked at a facility that acts as a daycare, after school club, and community center. Main duties include supervision of the children, helping them with learning skills such as pre-reading; reading comprehension and fluency; playing sports such as basketball and football; and caring for them during their recreational period
