English Proficiency Requirements
TOEFL & MELAB Testing Available
The University of Michigan-Flint is a testing center for both the TOEFL internet-based, and MELAB english proficiency tests.
TOEFL testing is administered through the Office of Extended Learning. Prospective test takers must sign-up for this test via www.ets.org.
MELAB testing is offered through the International Center's English Language Program. Please refer to the English Language Program for specific MELAB details.

- Transfer students from a U.S. institution must have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours at an accredited institution with completion of courses equivalent to our ENG 111 and ENG 112 receiving a "C" or higher.
- Freshman students who have attended four years in a U.S. high school with grades of "C"/2.0 or better in all English classes; Must submit official transcripts to verify.
Graduate students must submit one of the following
- minimum 23 in reading
- minimum 23 in listening
- minimum 17 in speaking
- minimum 21 in writing
