What is Remote Desktop?

Remote Desktop in Windows XP Professional allows you to remotely control your office computer from another computer on campus or your home computer.  This allows you to use the data, applications, and network resources that are on your office computer, without actually being in your office.  To use Remote Desktop you must leave your office computer on.

**Note:  Please make sure you always lock your computer or log out when you leave.  Leaving your computer logged in while you are not present means that others may access your personal files, or sabotage your computer in other ways

Why use Remote Desktop?

®       You can log into Smart Cart computers and connect to your office computer to show your class programs that you have installed on your office computer.

®       You can log into your office computer to show PowerPoint presentations that you have saved on your office computer.

®       Access your office computer from home to use programs that you have installed while you work at home.

®       Access files that you have saved on your office computer from home.

®       Remote Desktop works even if your office computer is “locked”.  This way your office computer is secure, but you can still access it from home or another computer.
