Installing MS Office 2007 for Windows on campus

Introduction:

This Quicknote is written as a tool to assist faculty and staff in installing Microsoft Office 2007 on your university computer.

**Note: This installation will only work on university owned computers.

Before You Begin:

Check System Requirements for Office 2007

Here are the requirements your computer needs to meet to run Microsoft Outlook 2007:

¨      Dell Optiplex GX-270 or higher model

¨      Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack (SP) 2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, or later operating system

¨      512 MB of RAM or greater

¨      2 GB of available hard-disk space

To determine the processor speed and the amount of RAM on your computer

1.      Click on the Start button.

2.      Right click on My Computer

3.      Click Properties.

4.      Click on the General tab.

5.      The processor speed and amount of RAM will be listed in the lower right corner of the tab. 

You need 512 MB of RAM or greater.

To determine the amount of free space on your computer

1.      Open My Computer.

2.      Right-Click the local C:\ and go to Properties.

3.      Click the General Tab and look at the free space.  For example 47.7 GB free

4.      Click the red X in the corner to close the windows.

You should have 2 GB or more of free space to run Office 2007.

 

Office 2007 Installation:

Installing Microsoft Office 2007

1.      Open My Computer.

2.      Open Pcpub on ‘Deptdrive’ (L:).

3.      Open the Secure Software folder.

4.      Open the office2007 folder.

5.      Double click on the “Fac-Staff Install.bat” icon.

A black screen will pop up and then go away when the install is complete.

Your computer may or may not reboot.
