Installing Entourage 2004 for Macintosh

Introduction:

This Quicknote is written as a tool to assist UM-Flint Faculty and Staff with the installation and setup of Entourage 2004 on a Macintosh computer.

Here are the requirements your computer needs to meet to run Entourage 2004:

¨       PowerPC processor-based computer

¨       Mac OS X version 10.1 or later.

¨       128 MB of RAM.

¨       5 MB of available hard disk space temporarily required to complete installation.

¨       Connection to an Exchange Server (i.e. You must have an Outlook ID)

¨       Palm Desktop software version 4.0

 

Entourage Installation:

From Campus

1.      Log on to the network.

2.      Click on Go.

3.      Click on Connect to Server.

4.      Enter smb://deptdrive/macpub

5.      Select the Microsoft Office 2004 folder and drag and it drop it on your desktop.

6.      Once the files are copied, Microsoft Office 2004 including Entourage 2004 is installed on your computer.

From Home

Obtaining the CD

You may purchase a Microsoft Office 2004 CD for Mac that has Entourage 2004 from the ITS, 207A MSB for$45. For details about purchasing software see www.umflint.edu/its/services/sales.htm

1.      Turn your computer on. 

2.      Put the CD containing Entourage 2004 for Mac into your CD-ROM drive.

3.      Open the CD, by double-clicking on CD drive.

4.      Select the Microsoft Office 2004 folder and drag and it drop it on your desktop.

5.      Once the files are copied, Microsoft Office 2004 including Entourage 2004 is installed on your computer.

Entourage Setup:

**Note Users from Home: You must be dialed up and connected to an Internet Service Provider in order to check your mail.  For instructions on how to connect your Macintosh to the UM system, refer to Quicknote 40 for using Remote Access or PPP method.

1.      Launch Microsoft Entourage 2004. The first time opening the program, the Entourage Setup Assistant window will appear.

2.      Select the "I want to start using Entourage without importing anything" option and click on the right arrow button in the bottom-corner of the Setup Assistant window. 

3.      In the "Set up a Mail Account" step, enter your email address – youruniqname@umflint.edu in the Email address field.

4.      Click the "My account is on an Exchange server" checkbox.

5.      Enter your Uniqname in the "User ID" field. **Note: You should not enter an email address in this field.
Enter "Flint-NT" as the Domain field.
Enter your LAN password in the Password field.

6.      Click on the right arrow button to move on to the "Configuring Account" step. At this point, Entourage attempts to contact Exchange server to obtain settings.

7.      Press the right arrow button to advance to the "Automatic Configuration Succeeded" step, once the account configuration is done.

8.      Click on the right arrow button to go to the "Verify and Complete Settings" step.

9.      Your account information is displayed. Verify your account information.

10.  Click on the right arrow button to move to the next step.

 

11.  Press the "Verify My Settings" button to double-check the changes; if there are no errors, you may click the right arrow button  to go on.

12.  Enter a descriptive name next to "Account name." The choice of name will not have any effect on performance.

13.  Click the Finish button on the "Setup Complete" step to save your changes.

14.  Click the OK button in the resulting dialog that informs you that Entourage is synchronizing with Exchange, and may take some time do so.
