three day summer entrepreneurship institute for high school students 

    The Summer Entrepreneurship Institute will assist participants with an interest in business and entrepreneurship decide if this is a route they would like to pursue in college. The program will engage students in a series of life changing sessions, allowing them to get a feel for the field.

    The mission is to encourage entrepreneurial thinking and to assist students in learning about the process of starting and growing new ventures.

    Institute Expectations

    Students will:

    • Recognize what is required to become a successful entrepreneur
    • Encourage entrepreneurial thinking to identify new business ideas
    • Learn how to evaluate the feasibility of potential business ideas

    Activities Include 

    • Field trip to visit entrepreneurial business
    • Entrepreneur guest speaker
    • Team project and presentations
    • Creativity exercises 

     

    What is the purpose of the program?

    What are the dates for this year's program?

    Tuesday, July 11, Wednesday, July, 12 and Thursday, July 13, 2017 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM 

    How many students are involved in this program?

    The program will include up to 25 high school students entering their junior or senior year in Fall 2017. 

    What is the cost to participate in this program?

    Tuition is $150 to participate in the program, need-based scholarships are available as part of the application process.  

    What about food?

    All snacks, meals and bottled water will be provided at no additional cost to participants. 

    Can parents attend the event with their student?

    Parents/guardians will be invited to attend an introductory information session on the morning of the first day of camp.

     

    What if my child becomes ill?

    In the event that there is an emergency, a parent or listed contact will be called by a School of Management representative. If a parent should have an emergency, they can call K-12 Partnerships at (810)762-5987 or UM-Flint Public Safety at (810)762-3333.

    How do students get to the university daily?

    Transportation to and from UM-Flint is the parent or guardian's responsibility. Students also have the option to drive themselves. There is a parking deck connected to the Riverfront Center.

    Is the water on campus safe to drink?

    Water on the UM-Flint campus is safe. However, students will be provided with bottled water daily. Water filters already are in use on water fountains, break room faucets, water refill stations, and food prep sinks across campus (this includes, but is not limited to, our vendors in the University Pavilion and Early Childhood Development Center).
