How to Renew: Log in to Mirlyn using your Kerberos password, go to My Account, and go to Items Checked Out and follow the instructions. You may also:
- Bring the book back to the library for renewal.
- Call the Loan Desk at 762-3400. Be sure to have your MCard handy and the title or barcode of the book (it's inside the front cover and begins with 4-9015-).
- E-mail a request to: Circulation@umflint.edu
Include your name, Library ID (it starts with 5-9015- ) and book title or barcode!
Overdue Fines and Lost Books:
- 25 cents per hour for Reserve materials.
- $5 per day for Media items.
- $1.00 per day for "Recalled" items.
- Lost Books are billed at item cost plus overdue fine (maximum $10.00) and non-refundable processing fee ($50.00).
Reserves: Electronic Reserves are available for some courses. For hardcopy Reserve items, you must have your UM-Flint library card to obtain a hardcopy Reserve item.
Only one (1) item may be checked out at a time.
- May be checked out for varying periods. Most common: 2 hrs.
- Two-hour Reserve materials may not be removed from the library.
- You may make copies of Reserve materials.
- Item must be returned in same condition as when checked out. You will be charged for any damage to materials.
- Fines for Reserve material: 25 cents per hour!.
- NOTE: Your instructor - not library staff - determines the loan period.
Library Card: Your MCard.
You must have your MCard with you to check materials out of the library. (This includes Reserve materials.)
Use of an MCard carries with it financial responsibility for all materials borrowed from the library. Do not lend your MCard to anyone! Lost or damaged material will be billed to the MCard holder.
Interlibrary Loan: Many materials not owned by the Thompson Library may be obtained at no cost through Interlibrary Loan. Due to order and delivery time, materials will not be available until approximately 7 to 10 days after ordered. You will need to provide ILL Department with a complete citation.
All ILL renewals must be done through Interlibrary Loan Department.

You may obtain limited borrowing privileges at local academic libraries by requesting an Area Resource Sharing (ARS) card at the Circulation Desk. Libraries available include: Baker, Kettering, and Mott Community College. (No public libraries included.)
If you wish to borrow materials from the University of Michigan Libraries on the Ann Arbor or Dearborn campuses, you will need to have your MCard with you. As a UM-Flint student, you have borrowing privileges at all of these libraries as well as at the Frances Willson Thompson Library on the Flint campus. Books borrowed from Ann Arbor may be returned to UM-Flint. Never return University materials to a public library. Never return materials from a public library to UM-Flint.
