Psychology

The Psychology Division supports UM-Flint's Psychology Department, which offers seven undergraduate concentrations.

Monographs. The collection holds 4054 monographs, which is equivalent to a 3a, and is 148% of the number from the modified ACRL standard (2733). The median publication year is 1973, and about 19% of psychology titles in the Library were published in the last decade.

Acquisitions. The 1997/1998 monographs allocation for the Psychology Department is $1322. Taking a proportional share of librarians' budgets, plus the reference allocation, yields a weighted total of $1602. This is sufficient to buy approximately 47 books at a discounted average price of $33.96 apiece. This amounts to about 5% of the total domestic publishing output for psychology, for an AC rating of 2b. In order to acquire 10% of the publishing output per year would require a monographs allocation of $3158.

Periodicals. The Library subscribes to PsycInfo through MIRLYN, and to PsycFIRST through FirstSearch. Of the approximately 1350 journals indexed in Psychological Abstracts, the Library has print subscriptions to 181 (13%=2b). There are 57 Wilson-indexed psychology periodical titles, of which the Library has paper subscriptions to 32 (56%=3a) and web access to 10 more (75% total=3b).
