What I Do

As a reference librarian I spend several hours a week, including Thursday evenings and some weekends, stationed at the reference desk to provide research assistance, information, guidance and instruction to library patrons, both in person and on the phone. I have for many years maintained a collection of U.S. federal publications. The library has withdrawn from the Federal Depository Library Program, so now I am preparing lists of publications (which remain property of the federal government) to be offered to other libraries. I buy books (non-serials) for the reference collection, and serve as collection development liaison for the areas of sociology, criminal justice, social work and women and gender studies. I provide advanced classroom instruction in research methods in those disciplines, and in federal and legal information research.

My usual hours are Monday-Tuesday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Thursday Noon-4 and 5-9 p.m. These hours are subject to a lot of variation, particularly Thursday afternoons.
