To Find Books in the Thompson Library Use Thompson Library's online catalog, Mirlyn to find out what books are available and where they are located in the Thompson Library. Mirlyn also tells which periodicals (journals, magazines, etc.) are available in the Thompson Library. There is a link to Mirlyn in the column, "Resources" on the library's homepage.

Finding Books at the University Library in Ann Arbor or at other university libraries

You can also search the catalogs of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor's libraries using Mirlyn. To change which catalog you are searching, click Go to Find Other Library Catalogs in the top right corner of the Mirlyn display. On the resulting page, the column on the left lists all the University of Michigan catalogs searchable through Mirlyn.

University of Michigan Flint students may go to university libraries in Ann Arbor and check out books using library cards from UM-Flint. These books may be returned to the Thompson Library on the Flint campus.

Other university library catalogs can also be accessed through the Go to Find Other Library Catalogs link. There are links to other university libraries in Michigan and to other Big Ten/CIC university libraries.

Other Ways to Get Books

Interlibrary Loan

Use Interlibrary Loan to request books from other libraries. This service is free to UM-Flint students, staff and faculty, but it takes some time! Allow 7-10 days.

Bookstores

Try buying books you need from an online bookstore, especially if you are in a rush, and can afford it.

Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble are two of the most well known. Also try Alibris.com for out-of-print books.

Tip: Search for books using a bookstore site, then request them through interlibrary loan.
