If you are interested in tutoring in the math tutor lab, please contact Dr. Thompson at firstname.lastname@example.org or visit him in his office in the math department.
If you are interested in being an SI leader, please visit the Student Development Center on the 2nd floor of the UCEN.
In the lab, upper-level mathematics students help others to learn and understand mathematical concepts and problem solving strategies. The lab is open and staffed on most days, and is available to students free of charge. All tutors working in the lab can tutor at least through Calculus II (MTH 122, Integral Calculus).
The math tutor lab is located in room 504 MSB, one floor directly above the mathematics department.
An updated schedule is posted outside the lab door.
Other Options for Tutoring:
The Student Development Center (264 UCEN) offers tutorial services in a broad range of disciplines. Tutors hold regular office hours for walk-in support and individual tutors are available for students who require intensive one-on-one support. The SDC also provides free, confidential counseling services to students. The campus counselor provides a supportive setting to disclose academic, vocational and personal problems/situations. Confidentiality is strictly maintained.
Several 100-level mathematics classes (Calc I, Calc II, Business Calc) are often selected for supplemental instruction (SI), meaning that students in these classes can attend optional group oriented problem solving sessions lead by upper-level students. Students that attend SI are more likely to pass exams and less likely to fail challenging courses. For more information on SI, contact the Student Development Center (264 UCEN).
Private tutors are sometimes available. Contact the Math Department secretary, Tina Carlson, at (810) 762-3244 or email@example.com for more information.
