Title: Degree of Approximation and Green's Potential on the Natural Boundary

Abstract: In this talk we relate two concepts, one from approximation theory, and one from potential theory. In approximation theory we often deal with the degree of approximation, which measures the asymptotic behavior of the minimal errors. In potential theory we study maximal problems involving Green's potential. We will see how the two extremal problems are related. For these two problems, we work with the Riemann sphere or the extended complex plane, and rational functions as the approximating functions.
