The Wind Ensemble

Mission of the Wind Ensemble

The University of Michigan Flint Wind Symphony has the primary mission of providing University students, staff, and faculty with an avenue in which to continue their involvement in the performing arts.  This ensemble and the Department of Music is committed to the concept of encouraging those who do not have career plans in music to develop the aesthetic self,  in addition to the academic self, through the involvement in the University and the community of Flint through the performance of music for the wind band.

Objectives of the Ensemble

1  Expand the technical, intellectual, psychological, and spiritual horizons of musicians
2  Promote the highest performance standards
3  Explore the music of the present while preserving music of the past in the repertoire of the wind band medium
4  Increase the awareness of the artistic and historical significance of music for winds and percussion
5  Create a positive music-making environment; and,
6  Broaden the concept of teaching skills and performance by encouraging creative thought and artistic interaction.
