University of Michigan-Flint

General Information
The Music Department of the University of Michigan-Flint is pleased to
announce the UM-F High School Honor Band weekend to be held on the
Flint Campus, culminating in a performance by the student musicians on
Sunday, December 4, 2011, at 3 PM. The band will be selected on the
basis of the nomination of the respective band director. Any student
currently enrolled in grades 9-12 who is in good standing with their high
school band or orchestra may be nominated. Assistant Professor of Music
Chris Heidenreich will conduct the band in 2011.
In addition, prospective members may choose to audition to be the one
student selected to perform as soloist with the Honor Band in a concerto
or other featured work for wind band and soloist.

Important Dates

Nomination Deadline November 1, 2011

Chair Audition/Placement Tuesday, November 22, from 5-9 PM and Reading Night
Honor Band Weekend Saturday, December 3, from 9-3:30 PM
Sunday, December 4, from 12:30 -4:30 PM

Concert Performance begins at 3 PM

Chair placement within each section will be determined by an audition performed
on the music that is scheduled to appear on the concert.

Please note: Students are expected to attend all three rehearsals.

Nomination does not automatically ensure selection; however, all participating schools will be
guaranteed representation.

Directors will be asked to submit nominated student names by Friday, November 1, via email or
US Mail utilizing the attached form.

Selected students will be notified before Friday, November 11.

Acceptance letter, registration, and $30 fee are due by the chair audition/placement night;
however, students will receive music and part assignments sent to their home as soon as
registration is received (which means students could receive music as soon as October 29 or as late
as November 22).

There is no limit to the number of qualified students who can be nominated (but, please
remember that many schools will nominate flutes and alto and tenor saxophones).
