December 2009 Commencement Update

The Winter 2009 Commencement Ceremony for the University of Michigan-Flint will be held on December 13, at 2:30 p.m. in the Perani Arena and Event Center . About 200 students are expected to participate in the ceremony.

UM-Flint Students Selected for Special Scholarships

Four University of Michigan -Flint students have been selected to each receive a $1,000 scholarship as part of an effort to promote higher education within the Hispanic Community.

The University of Michigan-Flint marked Veterans Day 2009 with its 11th Annual Remembrance Ceremony held in the morning, and the dedication of a new Student Veterans Resource Center.

Maize and Blue Distinguished Scholars Selected

The Scholarships, Awards and Special Events Committee has announced the graduates selected to receive the Maize and Blue Distinguished Scholar Award, the highest academic award bestowed upon a graduate of the University of Michigan-Flint. These awards will be given at the December 13, 2009 Commencement.

Veterans Day at UM-Flint Highlighted by Opening of Student Veterans Center

The traditional morning Remembrance Ceremony and the afternoon dedication of a new center for student veterans are all part of University of Michigan-Flint’s 2009 observance of Veterans Day.

The 11^th annual Veterans Day Remembrance Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, November 11, in the Michigan Rooms (University Center). A light breakfast will be available beginning at 9 a.m. The program will begin promptly at 9:30.

UM-Flint Sets Record Enrollment

The University of Michigan-Flint has set a new enrollment record for fall 2009 with 7,773 students, an increase of 513 students or 7.1% when compared to last fall’s record setting enrollment of 7,260.

For the fifth consecutive year, graduate enrollment continued to grow as more students pursue graduate degrees in high demand programs such as business, computer science and healthcare. Graduate student enrollment reached 1,192, an increase of 7.9% over fall 2008

UM-Flint named a "Best in the Midwest College"

The University of Michigan-Flint is one of the best colleges and universities in the Midwest according to The Princeton Review.
"We select the schools we recommend as our 'regional best' colleges primarily for their excellent academic programs,” says Robert Franek, Princeton Review's V.P., publishing.

University of Michigan-Flint Tuition for 2009-2010 Academic Year

The University of Michigan Board of Regents approved a 6.5 percent increase in undergraduate tuition for students at the University of Michigan-Flint.

UM-Flint’s proposed budget for 2009-2010 also included a 4.9 percent increase in graduate tuition and an 8.5 percent increase in institutional financial aid.

UM-Flint Provost Headed to EMU

The University of Michigan-Flint provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, has been named provost and executive vice president for Eastern Michigan University (EMU) pending approval by the EMU Board of Regents.

Provost Jack Kay has held the position on the Flint campus for the past five years.

Maize-The UM-Flint Falcon

A Peregrine Falcon chick has been moved to a University of Michigan-Flint building. According to the Michigan DNR, this is the first time they have a moved a chick from a building where it was born.
