What Students Are Saying About Their UM-Flint Experience in 2008

An overwhelming number of students at the University of Michigan-Flint say they are satisfied with their overall educational experience. A national survey found that 85% of First Year students reported a favorable image of the university and 83% of seniors who responded would choose UM-Flint again if they could start their college career over.

New Logo Marks Campus

A new UM-Flint logo now marks the intersection of Kearsley and Wallenberg Streets. Two similar logos were placed at the crosswalk from Housing to MSB.

Two Renowned Writers Coming to UM-Flint

Each year, The Myron and Margaret Winegarden Visiting Professorship brings individuals of national and international reputation to the University of Michigan-Flint campus. This year, Tariq Ali and Christopher Paul Curtis will teach and/or interact with classes, participate in meetings with students and faculty, conduct lectures for students, faculty, staff and the community.

Remembering Dr. Loretta Dauwe

A memorial service will be held Friday, September 26 in honor of the late Chair of the Computer Science, Engineering Science and Physics Department, Dr. Loretta Dauwe. The service will begin at 3 p.m. in the University of Michigan-Flint Theatre. A tree will be planted on campus in her memory.

Enrollment Record for Fall 2008

Enrollment at the University of Michigan-Flint has increased for the fall 2008 semester to a record setting level. The overall increase is 5.5% compared to fall 2007. Tenth day enrollment for fall 2008 is 7,260 students compared to fall 2007 which totaled 6,883 students.

New Free Shuttle Bus Schedule for Fall/Winter 2008

The Mass Transportation Authority has expanded the Downtown/Campus Route #14 to run over 12 hours a day, 10 a.m. to 10:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday. There is no Friday service.

300 students now call campus home

What began as a dream became a reality for the University of Michigan-Flint when 300 students moved into the first residence hall on the Flint campus on August 24.

On hand to mark the historic day and help the incoming freshmen unpack their vehicles was UM-Flint’s new chancellor, Dr. Ruth J. Person. Her appointment to the position was effective August 18.

All Rooms Filled at New Residence Hall

Chancellor Ruth J. Person visited the new residence hall as part of her first tour of campus. The facilty will open August 24. As of last week, the Office of Housing and Residence Life announced that all 310 beds in the First Street Residence Hall have been assigned, and a wait list has begun.
