The University of Michigan-Flint  provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, has been named provost and executive vice president for Eastern Michigan University (EMU) pending approval by the EMU Board of  Regents. 

Provost Jack Kay has held the position on the Flint campus for the past five years.

A Peregrine Falcon chick has been moved to a University of Michigan-Flint building.  According to the Michigan DNR, this is the first time they have a moved a chick from a building where it was born.

A newly signed articulation agreement could help further internationalize the University of Michigan-Flint campus. The School of Management (SOM) recently signed an agreement with the American College of Dubai (ACD) at the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to facilitate transfer of credits from ACD to UM-Flint. Under this agreement, students can complete up to 33 credits in ACD, and transfer to UM-Flint’s Bachelor of Business Administration program to complete the rest of their business studies.

A professor at Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale-Davie, Florida has been recommended by an 11 member search committee as the new dean of the University of Michigan-Flint School of Health Professions and Studies.  Provost Jack Kay announced the selection of  Barbara L. Kornblau, a  professor of occupational therapy and public health in the College of Allied Health and Nursing, and College of Osteopathic Medicine. The U-M Board of Regents will be asked to approve Dr. Kornblau at the June meeting.

University of Michigan-Flint Provost Jack Kay has announced that ten faculty and staff have been selected to receive awards for excellence. The recipients will be honored at the Fall Academic Convocation scheduled for September 11. Those selected for the award were nominated by colleagues and selected by the Scholarships, Awards, and Special Events Committee.

The University of Michigan-Flint recognizes that returning veterans may experience unique challenges as they transition from military life to a civilian and student life.  Accordingly, the University has created the Student Veterans Support Program (SVSP) to address this need.  The program offers a centralized source of information and support for returning veterans as they strive to transition seamlessly.

A regional campus of one of China’s premier universities will work with the University of Michigan-Flint to develop programs that will send students to both countries.

Recently, representatives of Ningbo Institute of Technology (NIT), signed an agreement that will facilitate future cooperation between the two schools. NIT is a regional campus of the Zhejiang University which is one of the major universities in China. There are over 10,000 students in six schools.

Participation in the 2008 Smart Commute Commuter Challenge has earned the University of Michigan-Flint and award for its commitment to make the Flint area a healthier place.
