In late May, nine students and two nursing faculty traveled to Kenya to participate in an International Academic Service Learning course for 2 weeks. They provided nursing care and teaching to a variety of people through St. Mary’s Mission hospital. They also left behind something special for the children

Students and faculty provided nursing care and in-service training to the hospital staff. They also had an opportunity to work with orphans at a high school, a residential home for destitute girls, and a HIV orphanage for children. Seeing a need for some special services, the group collected donations to establish a child life center and buy toys for a playroom for the pediatric unit at St. Mary’s.

UM-Flint established a partnership with St. Mary’s in 2007.
