Professor Seyed Mehdian from the School of Management, traveled to the Central European country and spent the winter and spring 2007 semesters lecturing and doing research in his field of banking and finance.

“It was very interesting learning how a former communist country is reacting to a free market economy,” said Mehdian. “I originally picked Romania because I wanted to be in Central Europe,”

Recently, the Fulbright Commission in Romania invited him to return to Bucharest and work with the Department of Finance at the Academy of Economic Studies. It is the same university where he taught on his first visit.

“I am honored to be invited back by the Fulbright Commission to give lecture and to conduct research in Romania,” said Mehdian. “To be selected as a Fulbright scholar for the first time was a rewarding experience; to be invited back is a wonderful surprise. I learned a lot during my first grant, the experience that I am still sharing with my students here in at UM-Flint.”

Mehdian noted that he will be working on two research projects with one of the faculty members from the finance department, “This grant will provide me with an opportunity to collaborate with my outstanding colleagues at the Academy on a number of research projects and share my experiences with the students. I look forward to working with the Academy”.

Recipients of Fulbright Scholar awards are selected on the basis of academic or professional achievement and because they have demonstrated extraordinary leadership potential in their fields
