The University of Michigan-Flint will soon join other universities around the country in establishing a peace garden on campus.
A statue of Gandhi will be part of the planned Peace Garden in Willson Park. The new garden and statue will be dedicated as part of the Annual Peace Day observance on Saturday, October 2 at 10 a.m. in the park. However, participants are encouraged to join a Peace March from Flint City Hall to Willson Park starting at 9:15 a.m.
The celebration is open to the public. The event will include food, music, door prizes, and other activities.
The Genesee County Committee for Community Peace plans, organizes, and executes the Peace Projects and Peace Day Celebration, and is comprised of several service-oriented individuals and professionals from different religious, cultural, racial, and socio-economic backgrounds.
Community partners and sponsors include: Community Foundation of Greater Flint, Chinmaya Seva Samiti, Genesee Intermediate School District, Genesee County Medical Society Alliance, and Dr. & Mrs. Nagaraju.
