In these challenging times, it is sometimes easy for college leaders to
lose sight of the central mission of teaching and learning. But last year,
Randy Pausch, a professor at Carnegie-Mellon University,
reminded everyone in higher education and around the world what happens when you bring
heart, humor, and passion to the classroom as he delivered his “last lecture” after he was
diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. Jeffrey Zaslow, who helped tell Pausch’s story,
will share insights from his journey with Pausch as they co-authored the book.
The Last Lecture
became a #1 International bestseller, and was translated into 30 languages.
Pausch
lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on July 25, 2008.

Zaslow is a senior writer and columnist for The Wall Street Journal. His column, “Moving On”
appears in the new Personal Journal section.
Substantial proceeds from Zaslow’s speeches
benefit the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and the Randy Pausch Honorary Fund at
Carnegie Mellon University.

The Office of the Provost, the Student Academic Success Advisory Council and the
Thompson Center for Learning and Teaching are sponsors of the
Student Academic Success
Summit. Zaslow will do a book signing at 3pm.
