University of Michigan-Flint volunteers will help college-bound students and their families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on College Goal Sunday, February 9, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in UM-Flint Murchie Science Building Computer Lab (Room 109).

“For nearly a decade, UM-Flint has been one of the College Goal locations in Michigan. Our highly-trained volunteers have helped thousands of students and families with FAFSA over the years,” said Lori Vedder, director of financial aid at UM-Flint.

The program’s mission is to increase the number of students who continue education beyond high school and earn post-secondary degrees. The FAFSA is required of any student seeking financial aid, including grants, loans, and many scholarships from public or private institutions.

Students under 23 years of age are encouraged to attend with a parent or guardian. Parents and students should bring their completed 2013 Federal tax return (1040) if possible, or their W-2 and 1099 forms.

“I encourage students and their families to complete the application even if they haven’t decided what college they will attend,” said Vedder. “By completing the FAFSA application by the March 1 deadline, students get at the front of the line for funding.”
