The University of Michigan-Flint is starting 2014 by again being recognized for its online master’s in nursing degree by U.S. News and World Report.
The 2014 U.S. News Best Online Programs announced on January 8 ranks the program number 24 nationally. According to U.S. News, the rankings are based on factors such as graduation rates, academic and career support services offered to students, and admissions selectivity. Only regionally accredited schools that met the federal standard of 100 percent online course delivery were evaluated.
UM-Flint’s online bachelor’s degree was also recognized by U.S. News and included in the 2014 national rankings. U.S. News evaluated several factors to rank the best online bachelor’s degree programs, including student engagement, graduation rates, faculty credentials, and support services available remotely.
In early December, AffordableCollegesOnline.org (AC Online) ranked UM-Flint number 3 out of 33 colleges and universities in the state for affordability.
UM-Flint also received recognition from OnlineCollegesDatabase.org as a top college for teacher education. The website’s feature story “Top Colleges in Michigan Shaping the Next Generation” honors the post-secondary institutions in the state that graduated the most education and teaching professionals in 2012. Of the 33 schools surveyed, UM-Flint was ranked 13th.
UM-Flint’s master of science in computer science and information systems was ranked by Best Computer Science Degrees as one of the “Top 10 Best Online Master’s in Computer Science Degree Programs 2013.” The criteria used for the ranking included the flexibility of the program, the course offerings, the ability of non-computer science majors to participate, and the overall reputation of the school involved.
In mid-November, UM-Flint was recognized among universities in the Midwest for its services to veterans. U.S. News & World Report released its rankings of the Best Colleges for Veterans to help veterans pursue a college education under the Post-9/11 GI Bill. UM-Flint was ranked 27th among Midwest Regional Universities. In total, there were 234 ranked schools across all 10 U.S. News ranking categories.
