Through a multitude of efforts, at UM-Flint “green” is becoming the culture of the campus. They proudly offer a multitude of recycling efforts for students, staff, and the campus community. Eco-friendly products are used and, whenever possible, paperless transactions. Through recent renovations, various energy and water conservation solutions have been implemented including low flow toilets and touch-less faucets. They have dramatically decreased the number of lights in use around campus and are using compact fluorescent bulbs, which are properly recycled upon burn out. Additionally, their Green Arts Project creates a deeper awareness of nature through art and the Urban Alternative House in the City of Flint rehabilitates an abandoned structure into an energy efficient building that will be used for educational purposes. The FOX 66 Green Team is a program of FOX 66 made up of various community leaders from eco-friendly organizations throughout Genesee County with the goal of making Mid-Michigan more “green.” These organizations include Genesee County Metropolitan Planning Commission, C.B.C. Recycling, Inc., City of Historic Linden, Keep Genesee County Beautiful, Flushing Township Nature Park, MTA, Flint River Watershed, Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce, Genesee County Parks and Recreation, and Goodwill Industries of Mid-Michigan.
