The Skinny

The journey will cover about 60 miles per day, going as far west as the Pacific Ocean, and finishing at Yellowstone National Park.

A trio of University of Michigan-Flint students departed May 5 on a 100-day trip that will take them thousands of miles on bicycles with the goal of raising $5,000 for local and international charities. Students and friends joined in a send-off that started in front of the UM-Flint Theatre.

UM-Flint international student Han Seok Gyu from Korea came up with the idea they are calling “Pedal to Feed.” He is joined by fellow students Katherine Riley Smith (left) and Timothy Johnson (center).

The journey will cover about 60 miles per day, going as far west as the Pacific Ocean, and finishing at Yellowstone National Park. They plan on taking a bus back to Flint from there.

For most, this might sound like a major undertaking. For Seok Gyu it’s just another adventure. He told the Flint Journal he has climbed the Himalayas in Nepal and completed two cross-country bicycle trips in South Korea.
