UM-Flint to Receive Award for Smart Commute

Participation in the 2008 Smart Commute Commuter Challenge has earned the University of Michigan-Flint and award for its commitment to make the Flint area a healthier place.

Participation in the 2008 Smart Commute Commuter Challenge has earned the University of Michigan-Flint and award for its commitment to make the Flint area a healthier place. The challenge was sponsored by the Crim Fitness foundation. Bobby Crim and Mayor Mike brown will present Chancellor Ruth Person the award during a special ceremony on May 13.

In announcing the award, the foundation noted that it was honoring the university as a community role model, and hoped the recognition will demonstrate to Flint residents and surrounding businesses the efforts put forth to think green, get fit and save money. Students, faculty and staff walked, biked and bused during the week of May 12-16, 2008.

The week of May 11 has been designated as the beginning of the 2009 Smart Commute Commuter Challenge.
