The University of Michigan-Flint will hold two commencement ceremonies on Sunday, May 1, 2011.
Enrollment growth at UM-Flint has resulted in a review of the commencement ceremonies that are held in December and May each year. Due to the higher number of students graduating, graduates have been provided tickets in order for their family and friends to attend the ceremonies. As the number of graduates has increased, it’s been necessary to reduce the number of graduation tickets available to students. Many students have expressed concern regarding the reduced number of tickets.
After broad consultation with administration, faculty, staff, and students, it has been decided by consensus that the university will hold two commencement ceremonies in the spring, beginning with the upcoming ceremony on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Perani Arena and Event Center. UM-Flint will continue to hold one ceremony in December. By holding two ceremonies in May, students will be allowed a large number of tickets for their guests. In May, each student will receive 10 tickets for the ceremony where they are scheduled to graduate. Tickets will be made available to students in April.
Undergraduate and Graduate Students who have earned degrees from the College of Arts and Sciences and Graduate Students from the Rackham School of Graduate Studies will have their ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on May 1. Undergraduate and Graduate Students who have earned degrees from the School of Management, the School of Health Professions and Studies, and the School of Education and Human Services will have their ceremony at 4:00 p.m. on May 1.
Information regarding both ceremonies will be available on the commencement ceremony website.
