All colleges offer student orientation as a way for new students to get to know their school. The University of Michigan-Flint Outreach is adding a new community orientation program-a unique way for new and current students, faculty, and staff to better know Flint. Called MY FLINT, the program will kick off with tours of the downtown and local restaurants. A few days later, MY FLINT will explore all that the Flint Cultural Center has to offer. Another portion of the program will examine the question: Did you know that Flint enjoys more public green space than most cities in our country? Students will actually use parking spaces in the downtown to build mini parks.
One of Flint’s rediscovered resources that flows through the campus, the Flint River, will be explored in a number of ways by students. The MY FLINT program will provide canoes for students to paddle, bikes for the trail along the river, and encouragement for others to walk along this beautiful resource.
September 9-Wednesday: 4 pm start from University Center for the downtown tour.
September 11-Friday: 11:30 am meet at theatre to start tour of Cultural Center.
September 18-Friday: 10 am Park Day construction begins in downtown
September 25-Friday: 10 am at Rec Center to begin Flint River tour.
UM-Flint faculty will be invited to join a special orientation session entitled COMMUNITY EXCHANGE on October 3rd. A staff orientation will be held on October 9th.
