As an August 2017 or December 2017 tentative graduate, we invite you to participate in the December 2017 Commencement being held at Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center, Sunday, December 17, 2017. The University will hold the ceremony at 2:30 PM. The ceremony is expected to last approximately 2 hours. If you wish to celebrate your graduation from the University of Michigan-Flint by walking in our Commencement Ceremony, there are things you must do to prepare for Commencement Day. Tickets are not required for family and friends, but seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
RSVP to attend the Commencement Ceremony by logging into your SIS account and selecting Student Services-Graduation-RSVP to Attend Ceremony. Deadline to RSVP is Thursday, November 16th by midnight. This step is a MUST! This allows a card to be prepared with your name on it to be read as you cross the stage to receive your diploma.
RSVP for Commencement and applying to graduate are TWO SEPARATE PROCESSES. You have to apply to graduate before you can RSVP to walk in the ceremony. To apply to graduate, please log into your SIS account, before the deadline and complete your graduation application. THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT STEP.

Visit the UM-Flint Bookstore to purchase your cap, gown, invitations and other commencement memorabilia. The Grad Fair will be held on November 7th & 8th at the UM-Flint bookstore. The UM-Flint Bookstore holds a Grad Fair to allow students to purchase cap, gown, invitations, pictures, and other commencement memorabilia. Please contact the bookstore for more information 810-762-3030.
Graduates check-in at the registration tables, by your last name, located on the lower level. You will also be asked to visit the alumni table, and the photographer's area.
One parking pass will be issued to each graduate. Additional vehicles will be charged $5 by the Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center.
If you were unable to attend your school's honor celebration, you may pick up your honor cords at registration tables.
Please ask family and friends to hold personal belongings before reporting to the registration area. Graduates are not allowed to have anything in their hands during the march. The university will not be responsible for any lost/stolen items.
The ceremony takes place on a covered ice arena. Please wear warm clothing and footwear.
The cap is a central part of the academic dress and should be worn throughout the ceremony. Men should remove their cap when the National Anthem is played.
Please remember to take your name card with you, when approaching the stage. The Marshal will read your name from this card.
You must be at your assigned place in line no later than one half hour before the start time, and remain in line.
Graduates are expected to remain for the entire ceremony.
Alcoholic beverages, beachballs, balloons, etc are not allowed, and will be immediately confiscated.
If the ceremony must be postponed due to inclement weather, the cancellation will be posted on the University of Michigan-Flint homepage, Facebook, local television stations, and radio stations.
Attention Master and Doctorate level students: The official Hooding Ceremony of graduate students takes place during the Commencement Ceremony. Hoods serve to communicate the graduate's school, degree and field of study through their length and the colors of the lining and binding. You must purchase the hood at the UM-Flint Bookstore before Commencement as to assure you have a hood for the ceremony.
