Brand and Messaging
Every unit on campus contributes to the way students feel about their UM-Flint experience, their brand experience. Seen this way, brand is not simply logos, colors, and slogans. It's every aspect of every interaction they have with this institution. University Relations helps identify and think through all those interactions. Improving the way stakeholders feel about those interactions has a lot to do with how you communicate with them: the message you want to leave v. the message they receive.
University Relations helps craft executive communications on behalf of the Chancellor and other executive officers related to official university business. Such communications include prepared speeches, presentations, campus updates, and more. UREL can help identify, analyze, and manage complicated issues, and develop strategies to ensure that the right messages are get to the right audience at the right time with the right impact.
In the event of a crisis arising at UM-Flint (including, but not limited to: an accident, theft, fire, flood, legal dispute, natural and manmade disasters, etc.) UREL plays a crucial role as part of the response team.
Community Relations connects UM-Flint to its neighbors, local businesses, civic organizations, and governmental agencies in Genesee County and beyond.
Community Relations is UM-Flint’s contact point for:
- Sponsorships for community events and initiatives
- Partnerships for new community-oriented projects
- Inquiries about hosting community events on campus
UM-Flint recently formed a Community Relations Committee to examine our role and extent of involvement in community activities and events. The university has limited funds available to help with community sponsorships, and due to the vast number of requests we receive, a policy has been created to review and determine the level of support we can provide to each.
News stories have a credibility and authority overt marketing efforts do not. UM-Flint’s “newsworthy” events, initiatives, and announcements should be communicated to Media Relations Manager, Mel Serow, who can assist with pitching and presenting story ideas to media outlets locally and around the world.
Media Relations can help UM-Flint departments with:
