About OEL

This office has two primary functions:

  1. Support the delivery of non-traditional, academic courses.
    • The largest responsibility in this area is ensuring smooth delivery of online courses via the Blackboard course management system.  OEL licenses Blackboard and other software, staffs a help desk, and provides extensive training for faculty to maximize the resources to achieve their desired outcomes.
    • OEL provides interactive TV and IP-based videoconferencing services.  These services have been used to deliver courses between the Ann Arbor and Flint campuses, to offer courses to dually enrolled high school students in Genesee County, and to connect to such cities as Geneva, Switzerland, for the global master's program, Technology in Education.
    • OEL manages off-campus sites in the University Centers of Lansing Community College and St. Clair County Community College.
    • OEL manages the Return to Learn program, a one-stop recruiting and support program for individuals interested in completing a degree after a long-term interruption in their studies.

  2. Provide noncredit professional development (both online and face-to-face), especially in the fields of accounting and K-12 education.

The Office of Extended Learning reports to the Associate Provost.
