This guide will walk you through the process of having your students submit assignments through the Turnitin program to detect possible plagiarism. The program takes the submitted assignment and checks it against billions of pages on the internet and papers already submitted through Turnitin and submits an originality report.
Step 1: Click on the Control Panel link.
Step 2: Click on the Content Area you want the assignment in, such as Assignments or Course Documents.

Step 3: Navigate to the folder you want the assignment under (or do nothing if you want to have it on the main page of that Content Area ) and choose Turnitin Assignment from the drop down box and click the
button.

Step 4: Give the assignment a Title and any Special Instructions for the students to pay attention to. Make sure to check both Display After and Display Until and set the appropriate dates. The display until date must be later than the display after date. You must set these dates for the Turnitin assignment to work correctly.
Step 5: Hit the
button to create the assignment. Hit the
button to close the confirmation receipt.
Step 1: Click on the Control Panel link.
Step 2: Click on the Turnitin Assignments link.

Step 3: Click on the View link for the assignment you wish to view.

Step 4: You will see a list of all the students that have submitted a file, the Title of the file, and the Originality Score/Report , as well as the option for you to download the file or remove the file.
Step 5: Clicking on the score under Originality Score/Report will display various information Turnitin has about the paper.
· The student's name, the word count of the paper, the title, where Turnitin searched to find matches, and when the paper was submitted will appear at the top.
· The locations (web sites, paper databases, etc.) where Turnitin found the most matches are in the center.
· Exact matches from the internet, Turnitin database, and student paper database will be color-coordinated at the bottom of the screen.
Step 6: To grade the Turnitin Assignment, click on the title of the paper. The paper will be displayed, and along the top is a place for you to enter the grade.
Step 6: Hit the
button to close the Turnitin Assignments window.
