*** Intro to Graphic Design for EducatorsThis course is designed for educators who would like to use digital photos and Flash in the classroom. This four-week course will cover design fundamentals and their practical applications for educators; technical, practical and legal aspects of using clip art, stock photography and sound; digital imaging including file extensions, resizing and retouching; and using a scanner and digital camera to capture images. You will customize digital images and create Flash files using 30-day trial versions of Photoshop 4.0 and Flash 8.0. *** Web Development for Beginners
This 40 contact-hour course is available to all learners but was designed for educators who would like to use Web technology in the classroom. Learners will have weekly readings, participate in online discussions, research Web design topics, explore the steps required to build an effective Web site, and use SeaMonkey Composer, an open source Web development tool, to design their own site.
Course Materials: This course is entirely online. Each lesson is based on lecture notes accompanied by hands-on assignments. The course also contains a quiz and two discussion forums. To develop a Web project, participants will use Mozilla's SeaMonkey Composer. The Mozilla Web site can be found at http://www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey/. This course provides an overview of copyright issues for educators at all levels, and includes information specific to the online environment. Topics include instructors’ responsibilities regarding student work, graphic sources and rules for Web-based course content, fair use, database and digital rights protection, and such legislation as The Digital Millennium Copyright Act, the Public Domain Enhancement Act and the TEACH Act.

This tool provides measurement criteria, benchmarks, ratings and a weighting system to provide an overview that is as objective as possible.
