Collaborate Moderator Training

Why Collaborate? Students at UM–Flint have good things to say about their online classes. Surveys show they like the convenience, offerings, and one-on-one time they get with professors online. The biggest criticism, though, has to do with group work—how it’s graded, how work is distributed, and how much time it takes. Faculty can enhance online group work via Blackboard Collaborate, a conferencing tool with the advantage of Blackboard integration. Sessions can be recorded then automatically posted so students can review them across multiple devices. Recorded sessions can also be graded.

What: The Office of Extended Learning is offering Collaborate Moderator Training, a self-paced, online course for faculty at UM-Flint. This series of three workshops with hands-on activities allow you to try out the tool. You can fit the workshops into your own schedule and choose to complete one, two, or all three. The course concludes with a collaborative online session among all attendees.

When: January 5, 2014 with a concluding synchronous session scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 5.  Enrollment ends on Jan. 14, 2015.

Why: Besides adding a valuable tool to your online methods, those who successfully complete all three workshops, will receive a certificate of completion plus a set of USB microphones for high quality audio.

To Enroll: To register, please visit https://umflint.gosignmeup.com/ and select the UM-Flint Faculty and Staff category.  The course may be found in the Online Courses area.  Once you’ve added it to your shopping cart, checkout using the oelfac coupon code. Call the Office of Extended Learning if you have questions at (810) 237-6691.
