All first year students are required to attend a two-day, overnight orientation (you must be present the entire time both days, and an orientation fee will be added to your tuition bill), during which you will learn more about UM-Flint, meet people who will be a part of your UM-Flint journey, and have fun! During orientation, you will discuss UM-Flint with currently enrolled students, learn strategies to become successful in your transition from high school to the University, and become orientated to your new surroundings. Accommodations will be provided for you in the First Street Residence Hall. During orientation sessions, we will review policies and procedures unique to UM-Flint, including graduation, technology, and much more. Before orientation is over, you will plan your schedule with the help of an academic advisor/counselor, and register for your courses.
First year students admitted through the Promise Scholar Program (formerly known as the Challenge Program) are required to complete a pre-enrollment interview prior to their orientation session. To register for your interview, please contact Educational Opportunity Initiatives at (810) 762-3365. You will begin the transition to college life through tailored programming, peer and professional support, and planned educational activities. You will become familiar with Promise Scholar Program benefits, campus life, and will be introduced to the most effective techniques for academic achievement.
