“Community Exchange: Designing Civically Engaged Courses”
Date: Friday, November 15, 2013
Time: 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Location: Park Place Room, 1st Floor Northbank Center
Experiential learning and service-learning are two High Impact Practices (HIPs) for improving student learning. These pedagogies engage students in applying course concepts and develop civic-minded learners.
The interactive Community Exchange workshop will cover principles and best practices for these HIPs through a combination of presentation, faculty and community partner dialogues, and hands-on work with your course syllabus or emerging course ideas.
Participants will receive a printed copy of the UM-Flint Faculty Service-Learning Handbook, which reviews the conceptual foundations of service-learning and steps for designing exemplary service-learning courses.
