Africana Studies Catalog Description
Africana Studiesis designed to prepare students for the ever-demanding
need to engage and to function in a diverse society. In addition
to providing an understanding of the histories and experiences of
les of Africa and the African Diaspora as well as the ways in which
they have helped to shape the world, the unit supports a well-rounded
education in the tradition of the liberal arts and sciences. The
spirit of inquiry and careful scholarship are the hallmarks of our
approach to the various disciplines of Africana Studies. This Program
offers unique opportunities for community service and community
involvement, and subjects range over geographical and interdisciplinary
areas including anthroponce, economics, education, health, history,
literature, music, performing arts, philosophy, political science,
psychology, public policy, social work, sociology, theatre, and
visual art.
