Lucinda Hinsdale Stone Senior Women Faculty Award

Lucinda Hinsdale Stone (1814-1900), along with others, lobbied the University of Michigan, its Regents, and the state legislature to open the University to women.  This award was established in recognition of her efforts.  The award is intended to facilitate the continued scholarly achievement of senior women faculty who perform extraordinary service to the institution, the profession, and the general community.  The Provost, with the consent of the Chancellor, will appoint the successful candidate as Lucinda Hinsdale Stone Senior Faculty for one year.  The recipient will receive a privately-funded monetary stipend to be used in any way best suited to her scholarly and pedagogical goals. A faculty member can receive this only once.

Eligibility

 

Eligible for nomination are women faculty members holding a regular appointment at the rank of assistant or associate professor and possessing the following qualifications:

  • Widely recognized national/international scholarship or creative activities.
  • Conspicuous ability in teaching.
  • Extraordinary service to the professional, university or general community.


An individual would normally be excluded from consideration for this award for any of the following reasons:

  • She holds a continuing administrative or non-teaching appointment of one third or more.
  • She holds an administrative appointment above the level of department chair.
  • She is the David M. French Professor.
  • She is a current member of the SASE.
  • She has received this award within the past five years.


Nominations

 

Nominations may be made by a department chair, program director, or dean and should be sent to Quamrul Mazumder, Chair of the Scholarships, Awards, and Special Events Committee, c/o the Office of the Provost in Room 229, University Pavilion. Nominations for this award are due January 23, 2013 and the supporting documentation deadline is Thursday, March 7, 2013.  The nomination packet will be kept active for three academic years.
