Lawrence D. Kugler Academic Advisor Excellence Award
The Lawrence D. Kugler Academic Advisor Excellence Award is available to recognize outstanding faculty and staff advising at the University of Michigan-Flint. The award honors Larry Kugler, Professor of Mathematics, whose past positions include Interim Chancellor, Interim Provost, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and Chair of the department of Mathematics. In providing academic advising to students in the Mathematics Department and as faculty advisor in the Academic Advising Center, Dr. Kugler used a holistic advising approach that included academic and career guidance, along with mentorship. The award carries a stipend of $2,000. It need not be given every year.
Full-time faculty members and full-time professional staff members who have been with the University for a minimum of three years are eligible to be nominated.
A faculty member would normally be excluded from consideration for this award for any of the following reasons:
He/she holds a continuing administrative or non-teaching appointment of one third or more.
He/she holds an administrative appointment above the level of department chair.
He/she is the David M. French Professor.
He/she is a current member of the SASE.
He/she has received this award within the past five years.
A staff member would normally be excluded from consideration for this award if he/she has received this award within the past five years.
Name of nominee and the name of the award for which the person is being nominated is due no later than Thursday, January 22, 2015. This information should be emailed to email@example.com. The deadline for supporting documents is Thursday, March 12, 2015. Candidate's statement (maximum 750 words) addressing his/her philosophy on student advising and demonstrating effectiveness in guiding student progress toward academic and career goals.
Up to three (3) letters from former advisees.
