In his time with UROP, Suyash has been
a very active student. He is currently involved in a project
designed to examine nationwide courses in entrepreneurship as a
basis for developing entrepreneur curricula at UM-Flint.
Please describe your UROP project.
My project is with Dr. Michael Witt from the School of Management and there is
another student researcher working with us. Our research focuses on forming a
comprehensive course structure for the 'entrepreneurship program’ at the
undergraduate level by analyzing the different programs and their structure
offered at the top business schools in the United States.
How did you get involved in research?
Being an active member of the ‘Entrepreneurship Society’ with faculty advisor
Dr. Witt; After one of our meetings I happen to ask him about his research and
thus I got the opportunity!
How has participating in research impacted your education?
As we all know, research work is definitely very involved. It has definitely
made me more analytical and meticulous in my approach towards work.
What has been the most satisfying aspect of your research experience?
For me, being a part of something that would be used in the School of Management
in the future is definitely something that I’m proud of. Also having the
opportunity to work in a big project in a team environment has been very
insightful and learning.
What are your future plans? How has participating in research helped you in
preparing for those future plans?
I look forward doing some entrepreneurial work in the field of IT in the future.
And participating in the research project to be able to understand the
fundamental of entrepreneurship, has definitely provided me with knowledge and
varied resources.
What advice would you give to students interested
in being involved in research?
Stop looking for jobs all over campus! UROP not only provides you with funds but
also gives valuable practical experience of in-depth learning in your area by
assisting professors on their research projects. It also serves as a valuable
bullet point on your resume as I've personally been asked a lot of questions
about UROP and research involvement at job interviews and while applying for
Master's or PhD programs.
