Project Description: Primary health care screening services are the first step in treatment for some diseases to reduce their impact on a person’s health and prevent an early death. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force has made evidence-based recommendations concerning when people should receive clinical preventive services (CPS) as part of their primary health care. Studies show, however, that people with disabilities are less likely to get some CPSs at the recommended times than people without disabilities.
Promoting Access to Health Services in Michigan (PATHS-M) would be designed to address the disparity in receipt of CPS by working with women with physical disabilities. PATHS-M is an intervention program that uses “patient activation training”. PATHS focuses on are:

Papanicolaou (Pap) test for cervical cancer

Mammography for breast cancer; and
-
Weight management.
Student Tasks & Responsibilities:
The tasks of this position include:

Summarize the routine health care access for women with physical disabilities in Michigan, especially, Medicaid coverage, Accessible Equipment/Facilities, Transportation, & Local Resources for women with physical disabilities.

Develop the handouts and the brochures
Minimum Student Qualifications: Experience in health promotion and/or disabilities. Knowledge of the Microsoft Publisher
