Project Description: This work is a second, qualitative phase of a Flint Women and Girls Fund project documenting the status of women and girls in Genesee County. We will collect for the FWGF several narratives illustrating the lived experience and meaning of some of the data that they are collecting from existing data sets. After additional consultation with the FWGF, we will develop an interviewing strategy, construct guidelines for interviews, conduct interviews, then write the interviews into narratives (or possibly videotape interviews). The objective of this project is to add a qualitative dimension to the Funds's data and to allow them to use both numerical and qualitative knowledge to educate the community and to increase donations to and the focus of the FWGF.
Student Tasks & Responsibilities: Attend Women and Girls Day October 22 if possible, meet with participating faculty, attend several training sessions about the project, help conduct interviews and write narratives, help with other arrangements.
Minimum Student Qualifications: Advanced undergraduates or equivalent maturity and skills; probably social science or humanities majors with some knowledge of lives of women and girls in local community; very good verbal skills (oral and written). Previous related experience an advantage.
