Project Description: The objective of this research study is to investigate how heat treatment affect the micstructure of hardenable steels and also to correlate the relationship between the microstructure and properties of hardenable steels.
Student Tasks & Responsibilities: The student would first conduct the literature survey on this topic.Then he would run the laboratory experiements(this includes; heat treatment and surface preparation of specimens, microscopic examination of specimens, measure hardness value, quantify the relationship between hardness and microstucture) according to my directives. At the end of this study, he would write report and prepare powerpoint slides for presentation at students' engineering conference.
Minimum Student Qualifications: The students must have taken EGR 280 and 281 with a minimum grade of C+ to conduct the research effectively.
